Welcome to our new and returning students and faculty!

Columbia College Chicago Library, 624 S. Michigan Ave.

Welcome to our new students and faculty, and welcome back to our returning students and faculty!  It has been quiet around campus without you here, but that is already beginning to change.  Friday marked the official kickoff of the school year with Convocation, and today is the first day of classes!

Library staff are ready to help, so stop by and see us in person.  We are located at 624 S. Michigan Ave., next to Follett's Bookstore. Or,  learn about what we have to offer through our web page including information about our collections, policies, services, events and more. Check us out at www.lib.colum.edu

Does the Library have my textbook?

This is a great question and it can be easily answered!

The tool you’ll need to fuel your search is the title of the book.

For extra insurance, it’s really good if you also have the name of the author of the book. (It’s amazing how many books have the same title!)

Start your search at the Library Home Page, and follow these steps:

  1. Key the title of the book into the search box.
  2. Before hitting enter, click on the word “keyword” [to the right of the search box] and change it to “title”.
  3. Also, click the link below the search box that says “Just books”.
  4. Now press enter and… voila!

Be sure to write down the location and the call number.

If the textbook costs more than $40 in the bookstore then we will always have a copy available on course reserve. These items can only be used in the library. Present your Columbia ID along with the title and call number of the book at the 1st floor desk.

Don’t know the name of the book?
You can find it on your course syllabus or your schedule in OASIS.

Classroom Upgrades Coming Soon!

The library classroom is receiving a fancy upgrade.  Most of the changes will be in place by early September so keep an eye out for more posts on the progress.

First, the obligatory BEFORE pictures.  In case you haven't visited recently, here's what it looked like until last week:

The view from the back of the room
The view from the front of the room.

The first order of business is to remove the power poles, paint and re-carpet the room.

Power poles. Yuck!
This week the laptops were removed...

No more laptops
And the furniture was re-located.

So much space!
Now, the power poles get removed...
And then new carpet and paint!
This is a work in progress - but there's no turning back now!

I don't think we'll miss all those cords!
We'll be posting updates along the way - so keep checking back!

The Library at New Student Orientation 2013

The Columbia College Chicago Library is a proud participant in New Student Orientation sessions this summer!  Hundreds of new students and their guests have stopped by to chat with Library staff and take some neat freebies with them! We look forward to seeing our new students this fall and helping them through the semesters to come.

Here are just a few of the orientation attendees we met during New Student Orientation 2013:
